Our 12 Step Carpet Cleaning Process
1. Walk-Through/Pre-Inspection/Price Quote
Our technician will walk through your home with you to carefully examine the carpet. They will listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and point out any potentially permanent stains or wear patterns, and discuss what you can expect. They will take measurements and give you a no-obligation price quote for you to approve.
2. Professional Pre-Vacuum
Our technician will remove dry soil by thoroughly power vacuuming your carpet. We will always pre-vacuum, dry soil removal is an important step in the carpet cleaning process.
3. Moving Furniture
We move smaller items, such as tables, chairs, and small sofas, at no extra cost. We use sliders to move furniture over, clean that area, then slide them back and put plastic tabs or blocks under the feet to keep them off the carpet while it dries. Leave the blocks/tabs for at least 24 hours. We don’t move entertainment centers/electronics, china cabinets, pianos, etc. You can either have those items moved for us, or we can carefully clean around them.
4. Pre-Spray/Pre-Spot/Pre-Groom/Agitation
A safe, effective preconditioning spray is applied to your carpet to emulsify and break down soils in heavy traffic areas and on spots to help ensure a thorough clean. We treat all spots and brush in the pre-spray to loosen oily soils.
5. Soil Extraction & Neutralizing Rinse
The carpet is now rinsed thoroughly with a powerful extraction system. Carpets are left soft and fresh. There will be NO STICKY RESIDUE LEFT BEHIND.
6. Post Spot
Any remaining stains get extra treatment with our specialty solutions. Getting all your spots out is our goal, however, some stains are just permanent, see our carpet repair section for more options.
7. Post Groom
To help the carpet dry faster and in the right position the pile is professionally groomed and left standing straight and tall.
8. Speed Dry
High velocity air movers are used to help your carpet dry faster. We place fans in each room as we go, and they are the last thing we put away.
9. Post Cleaning Inspection
If you are available, our technician will walk through your home with you to talk about your results and make sure that you are thoroughly satisfied with your cleaning.
There are a few additional services we do charge extra for:
1. Pet Urine/Odor Remediation/Decontamination
You need more than just carpet cleaning to flush the urine out of your carpet and pad. Please let your technician know if you have any pet urine spots.
2. Deodorizer
If you are having your carpet cleaned because of a bad odor, let your technician know so he can address it properly.
3. Disinfectant Application
We can apply safe, EPA registered disinfectants to anything/everything. Discuss your concerns with your technician, and they will help you with the appropriate application.
4. Carpet/Fabric Protector
Optional, but highly recommended! When new, your carpet comes with a protector on it from the manufacturer, but it wears off over time and needs reapplied. Your carpet will stay cleaner longer, and spots will clean up easier.
5. Red dye removal
Dyes are by definition meant to last. If you spill it on your carpet/upholstery, it can permanently transfer that dye to your carpet/upholstery fibers. But chemistry is a beautiful thing, and we have a process that can change that red dye to clear, and poof, it’s gone!

FAQ’s
WHY DO MY SPOTS KEEP COMING BACK?
Have you ever cleaned a spot on your carpet and had it return?
Have you had your carpet cleaned and had the spots just “come right back”? Why does that happen?
There are two reasons that spots return:
The first reason is wicking. Many times, the spot that is being removed has seeped into the backing of the carpet. This is common with pet urine, beverages, and anything that is spilled in “volume”. The material dries in the backing and the cushion (pad) of the carpet. When the spot is cleaned, only the material in the pile of the carpet is removed. However, moisture is introduced into the backing of the carpet. As the spot dries, the material that is in the backing of the carpet wicks back into the pile.
Even traffic area soil that is embedded can wick back. This is especially common in glue down carpet that is heavily impacted with soil. When the carpet is cleaned, it looks good. When it dries, the spots and traffic areas come back.
The good news is that if a spot actually wicks back, it can be removed. When spot cleaning, place a folded white terry cloth towel over the spot just after you clean it while the spot is still moist. Place a heavy object (but not a book or anything else that can be affected by moisture) on top of the cloth.
When you have your carpet cleaned professionally, be sure to point out spots that have wicked back in the past, so they can be treated properly.
The second reason spots return is re-soiling. Re-soiling is caused by a sticky residue that has been left behind. The residue may be from the spot itself, the cleaner that was used, or both. Some common residue causes are over-the-counter carpet cleaners purchased at the grocery store. Avoid using these cleaners altogether. Instead use the Home Pro Spotter we provide FREE to our customers.
Other residue causes include oily spots: duct tape residue, body oils, lotions, etc. If the entire oily residue is not removed, it will attract soil as the carpet is walked on. Even quality professional cleaning may not be able to remove all oily residues the first time.
If it happens, give us a call and we can come re-treat your spots. It does not mean that you didn’t get a quality clean the first time, you just may have spots that need more than one treatment, andwe are happy to come out and take care of it for you.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE MY CARPET TO DRY?
We get your carpet dry as fast as possible. We use powerful, professional truck mounted extraction machines that extract most of the moisture we use to clean. We place fans in each room as we go, and they are the last thing we put away. Make sure your HVAC system is on appropriately, depending on the outside temperatures, and turn on ceiling fans to help the drying process. Depending on the grade of carpeting, degree of soiling, and the air circulation in your home our drying time is approx. 2-10 hours, with 4-8 hours being average. Keep in mind pet urine spots that have been flushed out and deeply soiled traffic areas will take longer to dry than areas that were not as soiled.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET READY?
Pre-Cleaning Instructions
• We will send out a confirmation email with specific instructions on how to prepare for our appointment.
• Please pick up your small items and breakables, like lamps, plants, toys, small chairs, shoes, etc.
• If you would like the carpet under your beds cleaned either remove them to an area not being cleaned or remove the linens and place the mattress and box spring on the frame lengthwise and leaned up against wall. We will step inside the frame to do the cleaning.
• Pets should be kept off the carpet for a few hours or until dry, if possible.
• Please have any vehicles that may need to be used while we are cleaning out of the garage and driveway.
• For the sake of safety, have your pets contained off the carpet, prior to our arrival.
Post-Cleaning Instructions
• Please do not slip and fall. Damp carpet can be slippery. Please be careful when using stairs and when walking from the freshly cleaned carpet to any hard surface, such as vinyl or tile. It is best to stay off of the carpet for at least 2-6 hours after cleaning if possible. Also, damp carpet can pull dirt off the soles of shoes, especially dark sole shoes. Please keep children and pets off damp carpet until it dries. We provide plastic shoe covers upon request.
• Moving air dries carpet quickly. Have your heat or air conditioning on, ceiling fans should always be turned on.
• Try to keep traffic off the carpet for at least 2-4 hours. After we are done cleaning, the carpet fibers are left standing up; much like it was from the factory. Heavy traffic will simply lay the fiber back down. This may also increase the dry time.
• If Protector is applied, allow it to dry. For maximum results, the soil protection should be allowed to dry before heavy traffic is allowed on the carpet. Do not walk around on damp carpet in your cotton socks as they will absorb some of the protector.
• If furniture has been blocked or tabbed, please leave these protectors in place for 24 hours. Even though the carpet may feel dry to the touch after an hour, we ask that you leave the blocks and/or tabs in place for a full 24 hours. This will protect your furniture as well as the carpet. We want to prevent wood stain transfers as well as rust from metal casters found on the legs of some furniture. It is also a good idea to move tabbed furniture a few times so underneath the leg can dry as well.
• Some carpets may swell when cleaned. This usually occurs in carpets that are in need ofstretching and shows up as ripples in the carpet after cleaning. The ripples will go away and lay back down within 48 hours. If this occurs, you may want to consider having your carpet power-stretched. Power-stretching should only be done after the carpet is thoroughly dry, otherwise the carpet could rip.
• Try to take care of the spots and spills as soon as possible. Most spots and spills can be taken care of by yourself if you get to them right away. Hopefully, you will have a carpet spotter and a white towel handy. If you ever have any questions, please call us. We provide Home Pro Spotter to our customers to use in between cleanings. Bring your bottle into our office for a free refill. We also have other spotting products for sale.
• Vacuum Regularly and Thoroughly. Slow Down! The biggest mistake made vacuuming is going too fast. Up to 79% of the soils found in carpet are the dry soil and sand variety and can be effectively removed with thorough vacuuming. A regular maintenance schedule including vacuuming and periodic professional deep cleaning can not only extend the life of your carpet, but also keep it fresh and beautiful. If your old tired vacuum is not up to par, ask us for suggestions on a new vacuum cleaner.
DO I NEED TO MOVE MY FURNITURE?
We can just do open areas and clean around all or some of your furniture. You are only charged for the cleanable square foot, only the areas we actually clean. We can move most furniture and place plastic tabs and blocks under the furniture to protect the carpet from the stain on the wood legs or rust from metal feet. Please leave the blocks/tabs under the feet for at least 24 hours. A special note about moving beds, yes! We can clean under your bed. If you would like the carpet under your beds cleaned either remove them to an area not being cleaned, or remove the linens and place the mattress and box spring on the frame lengthwise and lean them up against the wall. We will step inside the frame to do the cleaning. We don’t move entertainment centers, electronics, china cabinets, pianos, etc. We can carefully clean around those items. We also don’t move furniture into different areas of your home. We can only move things if they can be moved around in the same room. If you have a lot of furniture that needs moved, and it adds a lot of additional time to the cleaning appointment, there may be additional charges.
